VShell 4.2 (Official) Now Available with New VShell Monitor Options and Ability to Access Virtual Root Paths as Different User

The official release of VShell 4.2 is now available for download.

VShell 4.2 for Windows adds “Connect As” support that allows administrators to specify alternate credentials that will be used when accessing a virtual root path.

“Historically, it’s been difficult to successfully configure access to network resources when a file transfer client is using certificate-based (or public-key) authentication,” said Chris McElveny, VanDyke Software’s product director for VShell.  “This new feature can vastly simplify access to network resources while still enforcing the security best practice of password-less authentication.”

Also new in the Windows version is the ability to back up or copy the VShell configuration to another machine using the import/export tool directly from within the VShell Control Panel.  On all platforms, the ability to deny connections based on user name has been added.  VShell FTPS adds support for client certificate authentication, as well as the ability to configure SSL encryption and authentication options on a per listen address basis.  The VShell Monitor can now be run in the system tray, automatically start on administrator logon, optionally display connection notifications, and provide easy access to the VShell Control Panel and Help,
